Talon/LPE Receives FAA Section 333 Exemption for Commercial Drone Services

This week, Talon/LPE received their FAA Section 333 exemption, allowing us to fly drones commercially in the US.

The FAA exemption process typically takes approximately 120 days. Unfortunately, nothing can be done to expedite the process and as drones become more popular, the length of time that it takes to become certified becomes longer and longer. These decisions are made on a case-by-case basis and are typically not reviewed lightly.

Talon/LPE utilizes the latest unmanned aircraft vehicle (UAV, aka Drone) technology to assess site locations quickly, safely and in real time. Our fleet of multi-rotor and fixed-wing drones utilize remote cameras with 4k Ultra HD wide-angle lenses to capture the highest quality video possible. We also utilize 12 MP-20 MP cameras for mapping applications.

With the FAA exemption now in place, Talon/LPE can provide aerial services in the following industry segments:unnamed.jpg

-GIS/Mapping

-Mining

-Oil and gas

-Construction

-Utilities

-Agriculture

-Real Estate

-Emergency Response

Don’t see yours here? Have an idea for a UAV project but not sure if it will work? Call us to discuss your needs. Some of the best projects have come from the ideas of our clients.

Typically, the quad-copter is used for video work and smaller projects, while for larger mapping projects, a plane is utilized. The planes used typically have a flight time of 60 minutes or more. The drones use a GPS receiver to return to the starting location of the flight, which in turn minimizes safety concerns. All in all, the use of drone technology allows for you to see the entire picture.

Furthermore, we are able to generate 2D georeferenced orthomosaic photos of areas from 1 acre to 10,000 acres. The only limit is time and budget. With the same data, Talon/LPE is also able to create 3D models of land surfaces and structures. Also, depending on specific application requirement, we can achieve ground sampling distance as low as 1 centimeter per pixel, while 3-8 centimeters is typically standard.

Talon/LPE’s experience with flying drones is well-known, as we have been flying recreationally for years. We believe in innovation and that belief is one of the guiding principles in our credo. To explore more of Talon/LPE’s latest technology, contact us using the button below.
