Angela Miles Celebrates 20 Years with Talon/LPE

Twenty three years ago, Talon/LPE was founded. Two years later, Talon/LPE hired their first intern, Angela Miles. Today, Angela Miles still works for Talon/LPE and has plenty of stories to back up her time spent with the company over the years. From intern to PST Program Manager, Angela can tell you just about anything you want to know about Talon/LPE and the company's growth over the years. That's exactly why she's been chosen as this month's Employee Spotlight!

1. What is your favorite thing about working for Talon/LPE?

My favorite thing about Talon/LPE is the relationships I’ve formed not only with my coworkers, but also our clients and state regulators.

2. What brought you to Talon/LPE?

A friend got me an interview for an internship after I graduated.  It was only supposed to last 100 hours, but I would get paid and get a little experience.  I was thrilled since my last internship had been unpaid and no one was hiring without experience.  As my 100 hours came to an end, Founder and President, David Prescott came to my desk and asked if I could come back the next week.  There was still work for me.  This became a weekly Friday ritual that lasted until a full time position became available 5 months later.

3. Out of our ten principles, which one do you value most? Why?

Did I mention relationships?  I’ve had the privilege of attending coworkers and clients birthday parties, weddings, and baby showers, and having them attend mine.  I’ve also been invited to a retirement party for one of my state regulators.  This same regulator gave my son his first tennis lesson.  Even as people make changes in their lives…new jobs, new locations, the relationships remain.

4. What do you like most about your team?

The best thing about the San Antonio team is the support system we offer to each other.  Whenever I need help with a project or a client, I know the my team has my back.

5. What skillset do you feel strongest in at Talon/LPE? Why?

The skillset I feel strongest in is soil/groundwater assessment and remediation at Leaking Petroleum Storage Tank (LPST) sites.  This is the work that got the company started.  In my time with the company I’ve been involved with all aspects of the projects, from initial site assessment to regulatory closure.

6. What has been your proudest moment while working at Talon/LPE?

While I’ve experienced many important moments at Talon, my proudest moment is not project related…it’s personal.  Six years ago my son was diagnosed with a genetic heart defect and needed surgery.  The individual Talon offices, not just the one I worked in, raised money to help with our medical bills.  I was blessed by the generosity of my coworkers, some of whom I’d never met.

7. What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends.  I also spend time fundraising and advocating for Alzheimer’s research.
