How Will Environmental Drilling Impact A Project Location In Texas?

One of the biggest concerns expressed by the clients of environmental drilling companies is what impact will the drilling have on the site. Some envision a nightmare scenario of torn up soil, big holes, contaminated debris, and damaged surface materials. With an amateur drilling operation, those are all legitimate concerns. However, with an experienced environmental drilling company, that is not going to be the case for the project location.

How can a professional environmental drilling company keep the impact of drilling to a minimum?

  • Use self-contained rigs on the backs of trucks or added to a skid loader that do not need large amounts of space. This keeps the area potentially affected to a minimum.

  • Using pads under rig jacks to prevent damage to concrete or asphalt surfaces. These pads spread the weight of the rig over a larger area and prevent the jacks from sinking into the surface causing permanent damage.

  • Contain waste and liquids with specialized containers on site. Different sorts of drilling may need special liquids. The drilling rig and team collects the liquids used. The debris from the holes is also collected into proper containers.

  • Remove all debris upon completion of drilling. Once the environmental drilling is done, the team takes the containers of debris and liquids off site for proper disposal per environmental regulations.

  • Wash everything down after drilling is complete. The team will wash concrete and asphalt surfaces down to remove stray dirt and tire tracks. This often renders the surface cleaner than it was before the drilling happened.  All waste water needs to be containerized and properly disposed of according to Federal and State regulations.

  • Render any openings safe before leaving the site. Any holes no longer needed are properly plugged. All wells have the pumps and housings in place. This prevents accidents and keeps the area looking better than when the drilling company completed the review.

It is important for a property owner to keep the impact of drilling in mind when handling a situation. Poor drilling practices can create more problems than you are trying to solve. Drilling liquids can contaminate soil around the site. Stray cuttings left on site can spread any potential contamination.

When a professional company handles the job, the impacts to the site will be minimal. In fact, often, the company will leave the site in better condition than before. This is one reason it is so important to use experienced drilling companies to do the work.
