Drilling Methods

Air Rotary Drilling

Best for drilling through hardrock or consolidated rock formations. Uses compressed air or mud and water circulation to clear cuttings as the bit advances.

Mud Rotary Drilling

Best for drilling in loose, soft, or unstable formations. Uses water and/or other additives for circulation.

Hollow Stem Auger

Ideal for environmental and geotechnical drilling in soft to moderately consolidated, shallow formations. Hollow stem augers remove cuttings while providing an open pathway through the center of the auger for collecting representative soil samples, conducting SPT and TPT tests and installing monitoring wells or geotechnical instrumentation. This versatile drilling method supports subsurface characterization, geotechnical investigations, soil sampling, and groundwater monitoring while providing efficient access to the formation without requiring temporary casing.

Direct Push

Best for sites needing representative soil, groundwater, or soil-gas sampling, or small-diameter well installation. Includes access to Geoprobe® platforms for in-situ subsurface measurements, including Membrane Interface Probe, Hydraulic Profiling Tool, and LIF/ DyeLIF/ OIP/ UVOST®/ TarGOST® technologies.

Why Us

Our technical experts will walk you through selecting the most appropriate drilling method for your site.

In-House Rigs & Crews

Our own equipment and experienced operators provide dependable scheduling, consistent quality, and accountability from start to finish.

Multi-State Licensure

Licensed to drill across 5 states, regional expertise that keeps projects moving across multiple jurisdictions.

In-Situ Technology

Geoprobe® platforms equipped for Membrane Interface Probe (MIP), Hydraulic Profiling Tool (HPT), and LIF/DyeLIF/OIP/UVOST®/TarGOST® technologies provide continuous, in-place subsurface characterization and real-time data collection. Talon/LPE also provides in-situ injection services, delivering targeted amendments directly into the subsurface to support soil and groundwater remediation while minimizing site disturbance.

Safety Driven Project Execution

Our safety-trained project managers and field personnel work together to identify hazards, meet regulatory and client-specific requirements, and adapt to changing field conditions.
