About Talon/LPE

In September of 1997, Llano-Permian Environmental (LPE) was formed in the West Texas cities of Amarillo and Midland, Texas. How did we choose this name? The Llano-Estacado and the Permian Basin were the two geographical provinces that the offices were located in and I liked the name Llano-Permian Environmental. I had always favored the name Scurlock-Permian and often saw their trucks when on business travel in the Permian Basin.

A little history on Scurlock-Permian; When Ashland Oil bought the Permian Corporation in 1991, it merged with Scurlock to form a subsidiary known as Scurlock-Permian Corporation, which was sold to Plains All American Pipeline in 1999.

In 1999, Talon Drilling, Inc. was formed in Amarillo, Texas. When we were trying to figure out a name we liked the thought of an Eagle or Hawks Talon or claw as the drill bit. The name was strong had a good symbol and was quickly everyone’s choice.

For over 5 years the two companies grew to a point where the owners took a strategic position to merge the two companies together. A marketing firm was hired to re-brand the newly merged companies into one new company. Over one hundred names were looked at and it was decided that we wanted to maintain the unique recognition that we had historically established.

The new name that was chosen was Talon/LPE, with Talon being derived from Talon Drilling, Inc. and the LPE being the acronym of Llano-Permian Environmental. Since the two companies were united together, it made sense to come up with a new name that illustrated the business fusion, but a name that kept the historical ties to each company’s roots and beliefs.

Today the official company name is Talon/LPE, Ltd.

So as Paul Harvey would say, "Now you know the rest of the story."
